Smoking Will Always Look Cool - We’re dealing with it

"A cigarette is the perfect type of a perfect pleasure. It is exquisite, and it leaves one unsatisfied. What more can one want?" – Russell Hoban

Is it me or is there a cinematic revival of cigarette chic happening right now?
… Actually, as the kids tell me, questions, are no longer necessary, I put it to Chat GPT
"The term "revival of cigarette chic" refers to a recent trend where smoking, particularly cigarette smoking, is being depicted as fashionable or cool in media and popular culture, potentially influencing public perception and behaviour. This trend is evident in movies, TV shows, music, and social media, with celebrities and influencers often seen using cigarettes, sometimes seemingly for aesthetic purposes. While some view it as a nostalgic return to certain aesthetics, health experts and anti-smoking organisations are raising concerns about the potential normalisation of smoking and its negative impact on public health, especially among young people"
Knew it!
If you’re a fellow Gen X, you may have taken up smoking in your 20’s due to it actually being seriously cool, however, it’s aging, doesn’t smell good, not to mention the issue of health, so why the current revival?
Could it be perceived a secular trend? Unlike short-term or cyclical changes, secular trends are driven by deep-rooted structural factors, such as technological advancements, demographic shifts, or fundamental changes in consumer behaviour, and represent enduring changes rather than temporary fluctuations.
As a curator of beautiful homes, I’m relieved to acknowledge that I don’t need to understand it, especially since TRENDS are not what GENERALLY inspire us … HUGE however, incoming -
We found two brands we’re compelled to highlight, show off and stock, no matter how ‘trending’ they may apear to be; they are of course stylishly under the radar currently.
Items we’ll proudly use as props, GIFT (the verb), and feature in up coming projects, wherever possible.
As primary school kids, we were encouraged to make ashtrays for our parents (mine were not cool enough to smoke) and suck on candy cigarettes, encased in pretty authentic looking old school (read, not scary) cigarette packs.
Boy Vienn A's founder, artist Asaf Seyam has gone two better with a collaboration phone case ashtray and ANGEL NUMBER Incense Cigarettes.
This cement trompe-l'œil phone case is perfectly designed to hold Palo Santo, incense cones and sticks plus the aforementioned Angel Number Cigarette incense.
Remember, we’re not actually smoking any more. It is however, a really bad phone case, so please be advised.
For those uninitiated in Angel Numbers, manifestation and all things abundance, here’s a quick summary:
Angel numbers are repeating number sequences, like 111 or 444, believed to be coded messages from angels or a higher spiritual realm, offering guidance, insight, and wisdom. These numbers often appear in ordinary places such as digital clocks, receipts, or license plates, and are thought to serve as a form of cosmic communication to draw attention to something needing to be addressed. The interpretation of specific numbers, such as 333 for creativity or 222 for balance, falls within the realm of modern spiritual and New Age beliefs, not religious texts
These ingenious, aromatic wonders are filled with the likes of sage, lavender and vanilla, burn slowly, to give off a balancing, grounding plume of energetically cleansing smoke. I’m unsure of how they were not thought of it sooner.
The cigarette boxes are designed to perfection and will surely be a talking piece when glimpsed at in your hand bag, found idly on your coffee table or seen mingling in the coolest event smoking areas. The ultimate Cool Girl/ Guy/ Person chic.
Keep them away from your mouth, remember, we’re no longer actually smoking but have to admit that whilst typing this, I am looking for cigarette holders, to accentuate the elegance of that two finger hold and twirl.
They smell good, they clean auras and spaces, they are the ultimate toxic stick replacement, whilst leaning into the angel number, manifestation realm.
They’re not cheap, nor is being stylish and cool, neither is actually smoking.
"Now the only thing I miss about sex is the cigarette afterward. Next to the first one in the morning, it's the best one of all. It tasted so good that even if I had been frigid I would have pretended otherwise just to be able to smoke it." – Rudyard Kipling
The next item is the most beautifully designed incense holder we have had the pleasure to behold. We challenge you to show us one more physically, visually , tactiley (yep, that’s a word now) pleasing.
The Stack Incense Burner is made from polished brass, has three stacking sections to hold, burn and release the smoke of classic incense sicks, not, I hasten to add, the cigarette incense (that should never be concealed).
Designed by Canadian mindful living curators Populist Project, whose purpose is to emphasise simplicity, restraint, and functional beauty,
The weight and feel of this sculptural, functional piece lends itself to being a more than adequate stand alone architectural form that will patina over time, giving it it’s very own characterful beauty.
Smoking looks cool, there’s no denying it; inhaling isn’t , we’re happy to have found work arounds.
All three items are symbols of how very cool you are of course, as are those lucky enough to be gifted them by you. All found in our I D Store
